Ioannis Loumiotis, MD

Dr. Loumiotis earned his medical degree from The University of Athens Medical School in Greece. He then completed General Surgery residencies at the University of Arizona-College of Medicine as well as Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center. Subsequently, he completed a Cardiothoracic Surgery fellowship at Montefiore Medical Center-Albert Einstein College of Medicine, as well as an Advanced Cardiothoracic Surgery fellowship in Complex Aortic Surgery at New York-Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr Loumiotis specializes in all aspects of adult cardiac surgery and aortic surgery. He is able to perform coronary artery bypass surgery, multi-arterial bypass grafting, aortic valve repair and replacement, valve sparing root surgery, bicuspid valve repair, mitral valve repair and replacement, and trans-catheter valve therapies. He has a special interest and vast experience in treating pathologies in any part of the aorta extending from the aortic root to the aortic bifurcation.

Biography

I have always been enthralled by the art of medicine and the opportunity to care for patients, making my decision to pursue medicine an easy one. I obtained my medical degree from The University of Athens Medical School in Greece and went on to develop a passion for Aortic Disease and Aortic Aneurysms, spending a year studying the clinical outcomes of different treatments for brain aneurysms at the Mayo Clinic, MN. Following my general surgery training at Rutgers/RWJ Barnabas Health and my Cardiac Surgery training at Albert Einstein-Montefiore Medical Center in NYC, I completed an Advanced Cardiothoracic Surgery fellowship in Complex Aortic Surgery at New York-Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical College.

I am board certified in both Cardiothoracic Surgery and General Surgery and currently serve as the Director of Aortic Surgery at RWJBarnabas Health Northern Division. My specialties include all aspects of adult cardiac surgery and complex aortic surgery, including coronary artery bypass surgery, multi-arterial bypass grafting, aortic valve repair and replacement, valve sparing root surgery, bicuspid valve repair, mitral valve repair and replacement, trans-catheter valve therapies, and minimally invasive cardiac surgery
